Dare felt the rebuff like he'd been punched and his jaw tightened. Hale had brought him for many reasons but chief was to temper his penchant for stepping in it. He'd done what he was meant to instinctively and tried to call the destruction back and in returned hed accidentally focused it on him self. So he would take it like a man and give as good as he got till they both were broken and bleeding but he would concede his punishment and they would move on.
His gaze dropped and he turned away from his Kahn for the second time that day heading off behind the vampire knight and it struck him to late that they might have been set up divide and conquest, the man in front of him had potential to be faster then even he could track and he'd be dead before e hit the ground. That would leave Hale with at least two people that wouldn't bat a lash if he died. The third was debatable and couldn't be counted on, that made him switch into hunt mode so he'd be aware of even the slightest change of air around him.
They made it to the lounge with out indecent and he found the food first and foremost picking at lavish and well chilled platters of the best sashimi and trays laden with sliced meats. It was a predators paradise, and he could get used to it there was a price there was always but he'd didn't think a little blood or sex was to steep to serve and be part of such decadence.

Uli watched the interplay between the two and learned much in that small bit of time,oh yes she'd have them against each other in no time. She would not let his threat stand he would learn his place, but for the moment her gaze went to the men in front of her and in that moment a new more fun bit of something began. Kenji in all the centuries at her side had denied her attempts at him and now shed use the boy to not only have him humbled but to humiliate and torture them both by positioning a moment to come.
The details shed work out later but, for now just the thought of it had her so very happy. Looking into her tigers eyes and making it very clear he'd suffer for his deeds but that she'd enjoy dragging it out. Then dressing Hale" do not judge him to harshly little tiger, he knew that I demand total adoration and attention and to love another over me would not be allowed. He protected you and your mother by pushing you away so that I wouldn't kill you both horribly."
She said it sweetly and matter of fact, as if she discussed the weather and felt Kenji flinch at the mention of their death so slightly you would have thought to be seeing things if you didn't know the man.Death was a non factor to her most of the time she was not concerned with it, yes she knew vampires died all the time the weak and lonely those who had given up on immortality. She was far to self serving to ever wish to meet the sun purposely.

Hale met the older tigers eyes as he spoke the first words to him ever. The man had been a shadow in his life for as long as Hale could remember. He now knew why and it made that proximity a larger burden versus a salve. Yes he could have taken the mans shadow existence on the extreme periphery of his life as a sign that somewhere inside the ancient tiger was a flame of familial concern. He could have but the idea the notion was such a foreign one that Hale couldn’t connect that circuit. He had lived as an accepted outcast all through his formative years that family meant those who would bury their daggers the deepest.
The poem or verse he spoke only infuriated him more. There was some message he was trying to convey or some point he was attempting to make without it being obvious. Well he succeeded in making it inscrutable at least. Hale had no idea what he was trying to say nor which piece of writing he was quoting from. He hoped it was a quote instead of some elaborate gold tiger greeting he was supposed to know. He knew nothing about how golden streaks operated and that was due the man before him. It was just another in a long line of wrongs that Hale had to suffer and would surmount.
Looking past the man known as Kenji he met Uli’s gaze as if to say do you believe this shit. They were not confidants they were not much of anything but she was as close as an impartial ally as he had in the room. It would have been weird under other circumstances to look to her for aid or at least understanding. Luckily Hale for all of his apparent brashness was no fool. He knew that Kenji had pulled a fast one on not only Hale and his deceased mother but Uli herself. She of anyone present would know some of the pain he felt looking on the man.
He spared a glance after Dare. He knew he had lost the man and that was not fine but it was better that he know so now than have it smack him in the face later. He was too scarred by what was even with his far happier childhood. He was too hesitant he would not back Hale with the whole of his heart and think later and that was what Hale needed. He needed someone he could confide in. Someone he could trust above all without being second guessed and doubted. He was perhaps asking too much but it was what he needed. They were beset by enerations of wrongheaded thinking. They were at war with those that should be brought into their bosom. They were all tigers and while only one could hold the crown there was no reason to lay siege to each other the way that they had. Their was no reason to war openly and secretly with each other. The pain they’d caused each other was immense but if they could move beyond their hurt what lay just outside the shortsightedness of the past was a future that was brighter than all the shadows that had allowed them to survive this long.
Looking the man in the eyes as he brought his gaze back. Hale did the unthinkable he relaxed his shoulders. He untensed the corded muscles of his back. He took another two steps forward closing the distance pulling the man into his embrace. To have the change he wanted he would have to be that change. Yes he was hurt yes he was angry yes there was nothing but an uphill trek ahead of him. But he would take those aching pain wracked steps into the future he saw possible even if it cost him all that he was. Releasing his grip on the man he looked towards the Master of the Islands or mistress as the case actually was. “Uli… thank you for not slaughtering me as a child. But I am no longer a child. Death comes for us all in due time. I understand that you are the goddess of the island. That you have been here longer than the Streaks who rule the day. That you have lain on these lands longer than any other thing that is. But this is a new day. Time is the one thing that even you have no control of it moves as it will. While you have survived it societies grow fall prosper and fail. Today is not what tomorrow could be nor is yesterday worth our wishes. I dare bring the Streaks into not only the now but to the very razor’s edge of what the future holds. I dare seek to strengthen them as they should have been. I dare dream of the people we could be. If that displeases you. If the idea of a strengthened Streak causes you anguish of any sort then what death you hold bring it to me now. Because as sure as I breathe I will do all in my considerable power to raise them up. To build the tigers into a people that will be the kings and queens they should be.”
He spoke as plainly and honestly as he could. He held nothing back he laid himself as bare as the day he was born. Why? So that there would not be a debt owed. Yes there were other ways to go about it he could have kept his own counsel and simply left he could have done any number of things but he would not lie not even by accident. He would not have the angry would be goddess of the island stalking his steps. This was her chance. She could seize the opportunity and move with the Streak into tomorrow growing stronger for it. She could latch onto the idea of being the goddess of a people strong enough to beat back the day or she could seek to cripple them. To shackle them to some anachronistic ideal that not even she could uphold. She could lend her support and aide to a cause that was worth the legends of her. Or she could hold with what was. Either way Hale would do what he knew was right and true.

Uli's eyes darkened but then the hall filled with a rarely heard sound, her honest and deep laughter. She full out fang bared head back laughed till she shook with it then calmed and tried not to seem so rude in her laughter. The need to smirk was to much but she looked at him and gave him full attention." You think me ancient and arcane in my thinking it seems but what you do not see is that the changes here the technologies and comforts were my request and doing. The old palace was good for then when we knew no better but as you said it is a new millenia"
So he wanted to shake up the tiger world, she was a mistress of tigers their strength was hers, so of course shed want the strongest. She'd back him in his endeavors but should the other tigers kill him for his attempts to flip their world on its head shed not bat a lash and keep moving a per her normal. There was very little way she could loose in this and if it benefited her to hedge her bets again she would with out second guessing.
" Do as you will but know they will not be so easily taken down, the ones who cleave to the old will do everything in power include trying to end your life to keep things as they are. I will offer some help but things must play out as they will and if you fail you will not take me with you. Come lets find your friend and my knight and make sure they have behaved them selves. Come kenji"
She knew hed still be processing the hug he'd received and would be slow to react. Eyes rolled she'd enjoy beating him bloody later he could take so much pain it was incredible to watch, and she more then watched.

Sin watched as the tiger stalked the room sampling and making his mind up in regards to his errant would be king. Yes it was obvious that he was torn but it was also as obvious that he was seeing himself in the bosom of Uli’s graces. It was a heady thing the promise of what she offered. It was all that he could do to not nudge him into his decision. Instead he simply watched as his ears took in the happenings elsewhere. He knew what was taking place. This almost threatened to break his composure. He wouldn’t of course but the idea was tempting watching as the tiger in the room reacted to his outburst.
He looked towards the tiger as the pomme’s slowly began seducing him with looks and furtive touches. He seemed a capable combatant but the war of the flesh was not one of his strong suits. Sin could have eased his discomfort but chose to revel silently in the battle being lost in front of his eyes. Nearly having his feel he spoke up. “Darren is it. You have been a relatively respectful member of your clan adhering to the old ways. How is it your Khan is… so aspected to changing everything and turning his back on tradition?”
It was a direct question on the surface but it was guaranteed to plant all manner of questions and thoughts in the tigers head. It wasn't as if what was said could be unheard. Nor once the man's thoughts took flight Sin would relish in where those thoughts took him. As well as the schism that would certainly grow with time and the Khan's seemingly natural inclination to tackle things head on.

Her laughter was almost as much of a surprise as her support. He had no doubt that both would be as fleeting the moment he lapsed any real control. That meant he would have to move with speed to root out any naysayers, any doubters, any enemy to progress in his clan. He knew it would not win him aymore support and at least initially loose him some. It was a loss he would absorb. He might be forced to reach out to Lennox though he had hoped he wouldn’t need the man just yet. He was tiger through and through even with his strong loyalty he would be a liability as much as he was a help.
He had not lost a combat so he was not worried in that regards it was solely the staggering amount of anachronistic true believers in the old ways. He was not against the old ways simply because they were old. He was against the traditions that kept the clan from growing. He was for progress so that none would face the battles he had to. Strength through unity was what he was proposing why others couldn’t see that was beyond him. Whether he had to drag them kicking and screaming or willingly he would succeed or die there was no choice for him.
“I know you are ancient. That was not the aim of my statements but the newness of thought that has a certain amount of risk." Shaking his head he said, “Let me start over. Thank you for your support, Uli. And despite Darren’s momentary lapses he would never get up to mischief. That is more my forte.”

Mouth full of delicious flakey fish and eyes on a wolf beauty, he heard the question and swallowed fast but hard and had to clear his throat. He didnt want to be disrespectful of some one who held the goddesses ear but he also did not wish to betray Hale any further then he might of so he just simply stated" The ways of the tigers have not been kind to Hale, because of what he is so he wants to change things. Idealistic as that all is"
Shrugging he couldn't be mad at him for wanting better but why did it have to feel that to make the new work he'd have to destroy the old and those parts of it that Darren loved and still believed in. He could agree there was some cruelty involved and some prejudices that might need change but when the tigers had been near extinct at one time and in need of preservation the selectiveness of clans had been the only way to be safe. There was theft amongst clans for queens and pure bloods.
To muddy the waters so that no one was pure or held the line of any one color was crazy and dangerous and might even loose to them the powers that most already thought gone. The ability to control elements was now so rare among them that most clans had almost no one with the power and here this island had a few. So while he understood progress and the need for some change the level of change was debatable and he saw more hurt then good in how his king wished to go about it.

Sin shrugged at Darren’s statement. He could understand the man’s dilemma. Understanding aside he wouldn’t give him an easy out. An out yes but easy never. "You say that like a politician who doesn’t know which way the crowds might lean and doesn’t have enough strength of arms to force their allegiance. You can speak plainly I care not what games the tigers prey upon each other. I merely ask as way to converse with you while we await your pup kings fate."
He was sure they were close to a true understanding and while in the end it didn’t matter to him he would continue being the bogeyman to any and all errant tigers that displeased Uli. Even if her displeasure was nothing more than boredom. She was capricious as every goddess had a want of being. He loved her with a fervor that none including himself would ever understand.
“If it is too dangerous a question for you perhaps hazard me an answer to why would one such as you who had not as misused of a time serve one such as he. Why would you come here today knowing full well that he might be ushering in his own death. Would you like to see him ended or are you simply here out of the reserves of your loyalty?” Sniffing the air as one who might have a cold Sin smiled continuing. “Each tiger like each person has their own scent. But you two are similar enough that I know you both share blood perhaps close blood are you his brother or uncle or some such family?”

He answered with out thinking " our mothers were sisters we are cousins..I promised Id have his six and I still believe in him but yes I was aware of what destruction he could have wrought for our clan and would have hoped to temper it despite his penchant for recklessness and the fact that Im sure we will duel later over my ..place in the streak"
He knew there was little to no point in trying to hide anything else from the knight he was shrewd and tricky. So the best tact was honesty at least in his mind. The part of him that was hunter felt them coming down the hall and he sighed and leaned back in the chair hed found. Still with a plate, there was barely a spare ounce of fat on the man any where and his metabolism was sick. Even his nurses laughed at times because he hid more snacks at his desk then they did.
Watching the man he felt a bit of curiousity" so whats he like ..Hales father? Is he really all that?'
He wanted to know how tough the man was and if maybe his friend was like him at all with out having known him.

Uli smirked" I can tell but hes still quite something to behold, very gladiator like in shape"
She was contemplating the things of both sexual and non sexual nature she could do to some one his shape, and all of them were good fun. Not necessarily for the person in question but mostly for her and despite her reputation for cruelty the influence she held could and probably would have him loving it even if she did mistreat him. Train swishing as she walked with Hale Kenji trailing behind. She could hear low masculine voices in conversation but knew well enough Sin would feel her coming well enough advanced that she not sneak up on him.
Besides it wasn't like she was trying to any how, this was her palace she did not have to sneak any where. Several members of her entourage walked past them on their ways to places in the house some out for the day to jobs at the locations she owned or some down stairs to the more hidden places she kept in the base of the volcanic soil. Each stopped bowed and spoke greeting to her in a tone of reverence and almost ignored the men with her as if they were no consequence when she probably was in the presence of two if not the most powerful tigers in north america at the moment.
That made her most pleased and tickled her to no end, she practically floated into the room Sin and Darren occupied. " hello again my darlings"

Sin didn’t bother hiding his amusement at the notion of what mischief he could get up to with all of the heady familial issues he knew existed between them. "So he the crown and you the shield. England was built on such things and many a king met their ends at the hands of their kinsmen. I am surprised he hasn’t put you down as a way to insure that no one was remotely strong enough to compete against him."
Sin shrugged as if the thought was the most natural in the world. He was not the grim reaper of Uli’s will for no reason. There was more than one way to kill a thing and most began with a simple tool he utilized more than he would allow anyone to know. Doubt was the single greatest weapon and one to which no shield created was proof against. Only the one weakness that most strong men were incapable of could help. That was trust true faith a seldom spoken and rarer sight especially amongst those who stalked and hunted their way through life.
"Kenji is a man of war even when there is no one to war with but himself. He constantly wants a bigger better challenge eventually he will run into the immovable object he seeks. Uli however will be there to keep him this side of death.”
The last bit was said as he knew they were within earshot. He continued as if he didn’t know they were moments from the door. “But I suppose our talk is tabled for now. I would ask more about you but you will have to wait as I am sure you are you’re accustomed to.” He shared a smile that was far too knowing.

Hale took in Kenji’s profile as they moved through the halls. He was sure they were moving circuitously so that Uli could bask in the adoration and worship of her congregation. "If he could see that in himself he would be far happier though I don’t know if I would be. Aside from me he is the strongest of us. He is all the good of what was and his heart is all the good of what could be if he could take the blinders of tradition for traditions sake off. "
As each greeting grew more elaborate as each member tried to outdo the other Hale had a harder than usual time ignoring the nagging constant voice of the child he was. He was not one to be ignored lightly so the urge was strong for him to greet each hierophant as one would an alien in an old black and white movie. He fought and won but just barely.

Darren realized belatedly he'd fallen into a well baited trap, that now made him look at the man before him with a even healthier dose of respect and suspicion. He nodded was no point in slapping the hand sort of extended him at the moment and he heard them now clear and went back to eating. It was almost scary how many calories in a day he consumed but not a spare ounce of fat on him for the most part. His body burned hot and quick and it kept his beast in check when it was well fed and feeling lazy.
Nostrils flared out of instinct but he was nonplused and contemplating the words and thoughts of Hale having him taken out by some one as a threat. It was almost hilarious because strength wise in the streak no one could take him but Hale. Less he went out side like maybe even his newly found daddy. That made him frown for a millisecond, a real ninja could probably succeed and be gone before any one found him missing. Dammit why was he even entertaining this? Maybe because he had contemplated that if he had to take the crown that Hale would go down swinging.
Face now still he was giving to much away he knew it but he was compassionate and used his expression to sooth patients so it was almost hard to go back to poker face but around here he wasn't the biggest scariest carnivore in the place not even by long shot.

Uli understood Hales eagerness to dismiss tradition in some way but he'd been born into two cultures deeply steeped in them like a heady tea. She shrugged" Im sure he will figure it out when he needs to or he will die thats just how it is."
Cruel as that sounded she was pragmatic, and as much as she'd love to possess the gladiator tiger his life actually meant little to her over all. She had learned a bit about him while they walked whether he meant her to or not. She filed that little tidbit away. Finally entering she went to her Knight and kissed him softly on the for head." you boys playing nice nice?"
Chuckling she patted her lap for the wolfette when she sat playing with her hair softly and whispering in earnest because she knew most in the room could hear well enough that a normal whisper wouldn't work. " So Hale I know what tonight is for the streak and will be there with bells on to watch the dance. I hope that will be a welcome visit I can even bring Kenji."
She smiled sweetly and him and patted her pet up over her lap to give him the full attention of her gaze.
